Do you support Pay-for- Performance for Public Education personnel? Why or why not?
A favorite expression of mine is “Be careful what you incentivize, as you will get more of it.” I do favor performance pay, though I believe that student test scores are a poor method to measure teachers. The state of the art in Human Resources practice instead focuses on up-to-the-minute reviews, 360 reviews, and other techniques. The alternative, of purely tenure based pay, rewards the wrong thing.
